Our Virtual Tastings Continue.

We are very excited for our fifth virtual tasting this Saturday.

Myself, Ben, and Dave will be joined on our panel by a guest (filling in for Mark, @whiskyismyjam), and virtually by Justin Farmer @whiskyinisolation.

Thank you to everyone who has attended one, some or all of them so far. It’s always a lot of fun to catch up with friends that we’ve formed relationships with over the last couple of years.

As COVID begins to settle down and restrictions are being lifted, we’re planning on continuing to run our virtual events every second month.

Our next planned virtual tasting will be on Saturday the 28th of November at 7pm with guest presenter, Nathan Archer @whisky.wine.hussle

After the amazing response from an Oloroso Sherry sample in our first ever virtual event so we have decided to come back to this and theme our November virtual tasting around sherry casks.

We’ve found some sherry casks in the bond store including a 35L French Oak PX Cask, a 35L French Oak Oloroso Cask, and a 200L Madeira Cask that is currently finishing a marriage of Apera matured whisky.

That is only three samples, the fourth is going to be a bit of a project for us.

We’ve recently taken delivery of some amazing 38L Ex-Bourbon Casks from two different distilleries, Bluebird, and Union Horse. We are going to include a sample from a 100L American Oak Ex-Bourbon cask where we feel the cask has just stopped ‘working’ (for us).

The plan is to decant this 100L cask into these two smaller 38L casks, track their maturation over the next 6-12 months, then when we’re ready, pull samples and showcase them to discuss the differences each cask has had.

We are firm believers here about making the casks work for us and it’s important to be able to recognise when they’re not, and do something about it.

While we aim for fun on these virtual events, it’s still nice to be able to chat about some technical aspects of our whisky and what we do. I feel like this 100L decanting will prove to be a bit of fun, but gives us a fantastic opportunity to go into some of the finer details of casks and what they’re doing.

Even though a little while off, we’re also planning our January virtual event, and we’re very excited about the lineup for this one.

Something really different and while I won’t tell you what we have planned, but as a hint, consider that we’re going to get John Yankovski @whisky_and_sound back to present with us!

Our November packs are now available on our site, but please consider that they won’t be sent out until the first week of November.

I hope to see you all there (virtually)!
